We have had a busy year! In February, NSPSCC President visited Minnesota. He was able to see Peter Leach's display at the Como Ordway Japanese garden. He also visited my school in Saint Paul and was able to play music with other teachers while he was there.
Our next big event was having Peter Leach's photos of the Japanese Garden on display in Nagasaki. JoAnn Blatchley was able to be there as well.
In late April, Mayor Taue and the City Council President visited Saint Paul before flying to New York City for a meeting at the United Nations. It was a wonderful whirlwind of activities which included special dinners, a reception for all members, tours of Saint Paul (and even the peace garden in Minneapolis)!
In August we had students from Junshin College and high school visit and participate in the August commemoration ceremonies in Minneapolis and at our labyrinth in Saint Paul.
Later in August, our Lantern Lighting event was held. 24 Girl scouts and leaders came for a week of fun and frolic at the girl scout camp. Both the Junshin group and the girl scouts needed homestays and we had enough for everyone thanks to JoAnn Blatchley and Carol Hanson.
This fall, Jim and John Fischer will travel to Nagasaki for the 55th anniversary celebration in Nagasaki. We all wish we could go with them!
Save December 4th as it is our Annual Meeting. We will have photos to go with all of the activities above.
It's been (and still is) a wonderful year of friendship building and sharing our cultures with our Japanese friends.
